Bev would like help to identify this Balclutha Borough Council group believed to be from the late 1870’s.
Identified so far are:
William STEWART – back row 2nd from left
Peter MASON - back row 3rd from left
John Hartley JENKINSON – back row 5th from left
Robert HOGG – front row right end
Can you identify the woman’s habit above?
As far as is known, there were no Catholic nuns in the family.
These two portraits were found in a family album, once belonging to
Henry and Lydia JONES (nee BREACH), Owaka, South Otago.
The family group in the photos are identified as ‘The Payne Family’
They appear to be entertainers and there is no clue as to their relationship,
if any, with the JONES family.
Extracts from a report in the Evening Post dated 25 Jun 1889 “The Theatre Royal was comfortably filled in every part last evening, the attraction being the first appearance in this city of the Payne family, who arrived with an Australian and southern reputation … The company number six artistes, including Misses Lizzie, Nellie and Maud Payne, Mr Payne senior, Mr W J Payne and Mr Ralph Steele, a baritone and comique. ……”
The crew of the S.S. Clutha with Captain Tsukigawa front right
The names of the other men are unknown.
Can you help identify them?
Can you identify any pupils in this photograph?
It is possibly Kaitangata School and believes to have been taken in the early 20th century.
Another copy of this photo has turned up in West Otago having come from the Clarkes of ‘The Triangle’, Kelso.
This family originally came from Milton so it is possibly a photo from the Milton primary school.
Thanks everyone! This gentleman has been identified.
Can you identify the gentleman and/or the house on the rise behind?
The back of this postcard has the following written:
‘Miss E Bovie, Lovells Flat’ and a date 29.4.07
Can anyone please identify the attached photo taken in
Owaka.
Written on the back is 'To Annie and Harry (my Grandparents) with love from
Bessie and Will April 12 1922'
We have received the following information:
“The couple are Elizabeth Mary LAMOND and William John BROWN. Elizabeth attended the Waitepeka School”
Can anyone please identify this family group?
A relative thinks it could be the Thompson Family but
I'm not sure.
The photographer was Muir Moodie of Balclutha, date unknown
The photo above is the wedding of Kathy PAUL and Ivan WALKER in Lawrence 1929.
As far as I know they are not relatives but probably friends of my late Grandparents Henry and Annie WILSON.
If family of this couple would like this photo I am happy to pass it on.
